Information Systems
Security
Managing the risk of data
abuse
Come and learn about Security in Information Systems. Security
is paramount in IT, the threats to data are legion and must be
countered for many reasons including:
- Operational Effectiveness: business processes don't work
well with inaccurate, missing, incomplete data or data modified
without authorisation
- Customer Satisfaction: few things irritate a customer
more than being dealt with incorrectly "by a computer".
- Reputation and Trust: loss of customer data at best
implies incompetence, and may cause actual harm. Customer concerns
about data security cause direct harm to organisations.
- Regulation: Data Protection is a legal requirement.
Inadequate or non compliance can result in serious
penalties.
This educational event by the Manx ICT Association will be a
must for many company directors, senior executives and IT managers.
Experts drawn from some of our top local businesses, who have
learned valuable lessons in addressing security in many contexts,
will talk frankly about their experiences, they key threats and
considerations to manage them. Data abuse is widespread, anyone who
has been the victim of credit card fraud knows this. Information
theft is a serious criminal enterprise, identity fraud and
blackmail, industrial espionage, even kidnapping, are commonly
based on the availability of information about victims. Any
enterprise holding sensitive data, about its own operations, its
employees or its customers has an IT security problem.
The speakers will be:
- Chris Gledhill, Managing Director of PDMS. PDMS develop
database systems for many organisations where data security is
paramount, including UK Government and Police.
- David Butterworth, Managing Director of Skanco. Skanco
are one of the major IT systems suppliers on the island, and
currently supply PCs, networking and servers to IoM Government and
many of our banks and financial service providers.
- James Cochrane, Consultant at Itex. Itex are one of the
largest IT consultancy and managed services providers both here and
in the Channel Islands, particularly serving the offshore finance
industry.
- Anton Wallace, Security Manager for the Hansard Group.
Listed on the London Stock Exchange, the life assurance companies
administer assets in excess of £1 billion. The Group has an
award-winning website, Hansard OnLine, which provides financial
advisers and their clients with unrivalled up-to-the minute
data.
The diversity of the panel we have assembled will expose all of
the major considerations for successful information security, and
offers attendees an unrivalled opportunity to pose their own
questions and recieve answers from a range or authoritative
viewpoints.
